On Wednesday, April 1, the Wartburg Softball team hosted the No. 12 Simpson Storm in a double-header to begin the Knights’ American Rivers Conference play. Going into the game, the Knights held an overall record of 15-7 and the Storm held a record of 17-2.
Historically, the Knights have defeated the Storm 43 times and have lost 47 times since 1982. Games between the Knights and the Storm are typically close, with the largest victory margin being 18-8 during the very first matchup.
Ending the 2025 season, the Knights and the Storm split the regular season American Rivers Conference title, making the regular season opener between the teams a highly anticipated game.
In a full seven-inning game one, the Knights would score 10 runs, including a last-minute two RBI walk-off single from sophomore Bella Mulder to win the game.
During the second game, junior Addy Wells and senior Jenna Wiebenga would send back-to-back home runs over the fence in the bottom of the fourth inning, bringing the Knights to a 7-4 lead.
With a rain delay ending the game early, the Knights would officially sweep the Storm, ending their first conference double-header of the season.
Opening conference play with a 2-0 sweep over the Storm, the Knights set the momentum for a double-header against Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska on Friday and another double-header against Loras College in Dubuque on April 7.
