Are you Burg-Bound? Wartburg’s 2025-2026 Homecoming brings students together to celebrate the community Wartburg college has to offer.
This year’s theme is “Burg Bound.” Which means bringing it back home, Wartburg is known for being grounded in tradition. This year’s theme encourages alumni to come celebrate Wartburg’s roots and rekindling connections.
This year, the Homecoming agenda brings Kastle Kapers, a talent show performance presented by Wartburg students, the annual Homecoming parade that will begin on Fifth street and end on 12th, the Renaissance Faire, Oktoberfest where the spirit of Germany will be celebrated with food, and closing the weekend with a home football game against the Dubuque Spartans and many more activities for the Waverly community to enjoy.
Every year Wartburg comes together to celebrate staff, students, faculty, alumni and parents. Every year Homecoming is revolved around a theme with multiple events that take place over a four-day period. Games, sessions, tours and outings are all included in one designated week beginning on Thursday and ending on Sunday in mid to early October.
Third year Homecoming committee member Alicia Mutasingwa shares that “As a committee member, Homecoming means comfort, community, and celebration. We get to not only find comfort in the community we have as students, but also the community we find with faculty, staff and alumni. That is why we are all ‘Burg Bound, whether that is as we continue our Wartburg journey, or make our way home.”
first Year, Makayla Schroder.
Our homecoming committee has put so much effort into making this entire week filled with a lot of fun! Monday through Friday, there will be different events each night in anticipation for Saturday.
Homecoming has been a way for students, faculty, staff, and alumni to connect and take time to relax and enjoy the culture and diversity that Wartburg College has to offer.
First year Homecoming committee member Makayla Schroeder says, “Homecoming weekend at Wartburg is much more than I originally thought it to be. It’s a celebration of not only an important football game, but of humans coming together. Our purpose is to gather as many people as possible to celebrate Wartburg and our community. To me, Wartburg homecoming is like a giant family reunion that I’m witnessing for the first time—something special and unique despite the common idea of homecoming. I think it’s an important thing to be a part of.”
Schroder states, “Working with the homecoming committee initially took more commitment than I thought would be necessary for a short club; however, the organization of the entire week has made me realize that it’s high commitment for a reason.”
“Our executive team works harder than anyone to put together each event while the rest of us follow in their footsteps to make their visions come to life. it’s really an incredible experience and I’m so glad I get to be a part of it, even with all the work I’ve put into it.” Says Schroder.
Homecoming and parent weekend is set to begin Thursday, Oct. 9 and continue through Sunday, Oct. 12. With unity being the focus of Wartburg’s Homecoming weekend, celebrating spirit and tradition is an exciting annual tradition.
