Wartburg College Campus Security swiftly addressed the situation Oct. 7 after a student voluntarily disclosed possession of a firearm in a residence hall. 

According to a statement from Campus Security, the student contacted administrators and requested assistance in removing the firearm from their room. Security responded immediately, and the student involved is no longer on campus. 

“Those involved in the incident response do not believe there was an immediate danger,” the statement read. “However, because a firearm was involved, we believe it is important to inform our community out of an abundance of caution.” 

Wartburg College policy strictly prohibits firearms on campus property. 

Students were notified of the situation in an email on Oct. 7. The college also reminded students, faculty and staff of available safety reporting resources.
