On Monday, Oct. 13, The Ohle Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center (The W) sent an email to the Wartburg College community stating that the pool in the W would be ‘closed indefinitely.’
“Due to a major mechanical failure, the pool will be closed indefinitely. The sauna, steam room, and hot tub will remain open on the normal schedule,” the email states.
A follow-up email was sent on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 11:49 a.m., stating that a part had been ordered to repair the issue. The email shared that the problem was identified as a cracked pipe to the pool. The part was expected to arrive on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
“We will attempt to fix the issue without draining the pool. If this proves unsuccessful, we will have to consider alternative options, which would include draining the pool,” the email states.
A third email was sent out later on Tuesday at 4:59 p.m.. This email shared that the pool would reopen for family swim on Tuesday night after a temporary solution to the issue was found.
This email also included an update that the pool would close on Monday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. for repairs.
The W will continue to keep the Wartburg college community updated via email. The W thanks the community for their patience as the pool undergoes the repair.
UPDATED:
On Monday, Oct. 20, the Wartburg College community received updated emails from the Ohle Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center on the repairs being made to a cracked pipe in the pool.
The first email stated that the repairs were taking longer than expected and that the pool would not be open in time for Monday night open swim, but that it would be opened at 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
A second email sent later Monday night stated that there was another delay in the opening of the pool.
“Despite our earlier update, the pool will not be reopening tomorrow morning as planned. While today’s repairs were progressing well, an unexpected issue arose late in the day that requires additional attention before we can safely reopen,” the email states.
The email shares that the sauna, steam room and hot tub would remain open at regular operating hours.
A third email was sent later in the afternoon, stating that the pool would reopen Tuesday evening for at 5 p.m. The email included a warning that the pool water may be cold, but should return to normal by Wednesday morning.
The W expresses understanding of the disappointing news, assuring community members that work is being done diligently to repair the issue and update as repairs continue.
